WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. (April 18, 2016) The Midwest Dash Series feature this Sunday at Dells Raceway Park certainly was one for the history books and not just because it was the first event. George Sparkman held off Kyle Stark in the final twists and turns of a wild 25-lap main event to secure his spot in series lore.

The duo at the front of the field should come as a surprise to no one. Stark a multiple-time Jefferson Speedway Champion and Sparkman a five-time Champion at Rockford Speedway set the two fastest laps during qualifying. They proved to be tough all afternoon as they mounted a charge through the field. It seemed as though it would come down to who would catch the right breaks at the right time. Advantage, Sparkman.

Once the green fell, the feature field looked nothing short of rush hour on I-90 through Madison. Drivers dashed to the high lines, low lines and everywhere in between looking for positioning. From the outside pole position, John Severston jumped to the lead and attempted to pull away. Behind him, things were frantic until a caution fell on lap 11.

By this point Sparkman had weaved through traffic into the Top Five. Stark was still stuck in the mid portions of the field, and struggling to find his way into the Top Ten. This would prove to be the difference.

Sparkman followed behind John Handeland after the restart, and the duo were able to separate from the pack, but the separation was short-lived. Several cautions would follow the lap 11 restart and allow Stark to slowly slide his way into the Top Five. Once the field was back into motion on lap 12 Sparkman was able to power past Handeland into the lead. Stark was just behind him and moved to the runner-up spot on lap 14.

A final restart took place on lap 18. Once more, Sparkman and Stark were able to get away from the pack. However, this time Charlie Nickle was able to stay within striking distance of the top two.

Stark surveyed his options over the final five laps. On several occasions he jumped to the top line, only to be held off by Sparkman. With just two laps to go the leaders approached lapped traffic. Stark appeared to have some space on the inside, but it was only because Sparkman was going to the outside of the lapped car. Stark ran out of room to create a challenge and had to fall behind Sparkman again.

Sparkmans move past the lapped car secured the win while Stark had to fight off Nickle to hold on for Second Place. Behind Nickle Handeland and Phil Malouf rounded out the Top Five.
